Dr. Klaus made a comment at the conference I attended today that was
puzzleing to me.
He stated that oxytocin was the "love" hormone and that prolactin was
responsible for
milk production. I knew that prolactin was responsible for milk
production but for as long as I can remember I thought it was also
referred to as the "mothering hormone" responsible for nurturing,
relaxing feelings. In fact I often state to new moms that although
bottlefeeding mothers have prolactin in their blood stream it is not
present in the concentrations that it is in breastfeeding moms and that
helps the nurturing feelings. Now I am feeling that Dr. Klaus and maybe
others see oxytocin as this mothering hormone. Help, I'm confused and
maybe I'm giving out the wrong info and that needs to be corrected.
