Tragic? Well, yes and no. The whole idea of establishing a procedure is to
have some consistency and some standard. So that's not all bad.
But painting outside the lines: Now that's different! Pat, I assume you
mean creativity and independent thinking and all of that. Being creative
and abiding by the rules (policies, procedures etc.) aren't necessarily
mutually exclusive activities.
I guess I've just tried to use my creative abilities to change, rather than
to break, the existing rules.
