>I am not the only one who thinks the mother nursing the baby on the
high-rise building gives an anti-breastfeeding message! I have raised this
issue at every conference since the cover came out, and it's usually a
50/50 split in the audience of those who think it is pro-bf and those who
think it is anti-bf. So I'm not at all sure how it would work as a poster
that was supposed to get people to think kindly of bf.<
But surely *every single* poster or image of breastfeeding has a split
(maybe not 50/50, but a division) between those who think its great and
those who dislike.
For example I thought Jerry Hall was great, but I showed the pic to someone
else working in the bf line and her face!!! A picture of distaste. And the
Canadian poster showing a pair of breasts (perky ones, too) with the slogan
'sometimes its good to suck up to the boss' actually turns my stomach, but I
see it up in hospitals and assume that some people think its funny.
And this is without addressing what kind of images we want to get out there.
Some of the most famous British advert campaigns have been deliberately
provokotive in a variety of ways. It gets people to think, it stays in your
mind, etc. I don't know if it is good in the long term or not, but the
advertising industry has invested some thought and money into the area, so
maybe they know something we don't.
