Dave: Sorry I hit send before I was ready on the last email. Topical Brandy
and Whiskey can be very effective for teething, but they are also associated
with decreased respiration and possibly SIDS, as well as suspected in later
life alcoholism.

Chamomille, fennel, and mint are all used for colic and diarrhea. The dose
depends upon whether you are talking about homeopathic or true herbal
dosages. If they are teas, then the strength varies dramatically based upon
whether fresh herbs are used, the variety within the type of herb, the
temperature and acidity/alkalinity of the water, etc. Most traditional
health providers in an area know "instinctively" how to tinker with these
factors to come up with the right dose. I can give you examples if you
want; however, most studies use either capsule form standardized herbs or
with babies we use tinctures (with the alcohol evaporated off) since we can
reliably calculate the dosages.

The allergy issue with chamomille is also a significant one (unless it is
given as a homeopathic) because it is in the daisy family. I've had moms
have severe allergic rhinitis and asthma just from drinking their
self-prescribed tea!
