Just to clarify. I posted the snippet from the midwifery e-newsletter on
breast compression. The reason I posted, actually, was becuase the
description of breast compression was not what I was familiar with. That's
why I named the post "variation on breast compression?" The midwifery
snippet said to press on the breast near the armpit. I thought the breast
got "squeezed" nearer the areola (Jack, is that what you teach?). I liked
the description that Virginia Thorley shared, with advice to compress (or
massage) when baby's sucking changed from long slow sucks to short fast ones
or if the baby falls asleep. I think that is very appropriate advice in some
cases. Agreed this is not something we necessarily need to teach to all. Or
should we? Anyway, pressing near armpit OR squeezing nearer the areola would
each work. I was just wondering if anyone used the press near the armpit
advice?
Hey, we could study which technique works better. Jack, exactly what
technique did the lady from Chile use?
