Sue, I would like to suggest that the voice changes are more likely from
stress than from hormonal causes. I hope that the scholarship student
doesn't wean only to find her voice is even more affected from the
increased stress.
Many women under serious stress, like new moms, or those who are
suffering from undiagnosed PPD, have a courser, lower sounding voice
that goes back to normal once they either learn some coping strategies
or begin appropriate treatment. Sorry, I don't know the physiology
behind the change, just that it happens.
