I have a client with a puzzling situation. She seems to have some kind of
skin problem around her nipple, directly where the baby latches. Her child
is 15 months. She's had it for a few months now. It 1st started as a red
rash, with no other symptoms and would sometimes go away. It does not look
like thrush and baby has shown no signs. She is doing gentian violet now, so
we'll see if this helps, but we are doubtful. The red area peels as if dry
skin. She has seen a D.O. who suggested it was just from nrsing too often,
that the skin underneath was not given time to regenerate. Her suggestion
was to wean. Surprise!? Anyway, it does not seem to be Psoriasis because
there is no silvery scaling or any other signs on her body. This seemed to
happen when she moved to a dryer climate. She takes loads of Flax oil and
drinks plenty of H2O, and constantly puts Lansinoh on the dry area. Nothing
seems to help. She has not changed any cosmetics or food or detergent or
anything like so. We don't think it's from the baby teething because she's
been doing that for quite some time.
Anyway, was wondering if any of you had ever seen anything like this and
have any ideas!
Thanks,
Kim Rush, CD (DONA), CCE
