The Web RN commentary: Beyond BreastFeeding, contains a very innacurate
statement of FACT according to published medical literature, namely the
statement: "The fact is, though, whatever breastfeeding offers, those
advantages are not monumental or life-changing."
In all due respect to the author, I believe a FACTUAL comment correction is
due. The FACT is that current and most recent research is recognizing infant
life events, exposures and environment as being instrumental and maybe
primarily active in affecting life long health. Furthermore, because
breastfeeding is one of those infant life events, the advantages of
breastfeeding which only recently are being espoused in general, do affect
life long health. A case in point, is the FACT that breast fed infants have
about 1/3 the incidence of later onset DIABETES as soy formula fed infants.
THAT is a MONUMENTAL LIFE CHANGING FACT. The research is clear, when infants
miss breast "SUCKLING", they have a much greater chance to live a life that
"SUCKS".
