David, Thanks for the information.  It was the information I was looking for.
 That particular patent was filed in 1994!!!  So this knowledge that a
certain percentage of SIDS is caused by metabolic disorders, is being used by
a pharmaceutical company to market carnitine.  According to the one study you
quoted , breastfeeding is protective for at least one of the metabolic
disorders I mentioned (MCAD).  I would imagine it would be the same for the
other disorders.

So should we ask what formula companies know and for how long have they known
this?  Gee, this sounds like the Tobacco Industry, who knew for a long time
the studies that smoking and lung cancer were related.  Why am I not
surprised?
Once again I learn more about breastfeeding by reading patents on formula and
