>Does anyone know why the Pakastani mother only breastfed one of the twins?

Because only the boy was considered deserving of her milk, under
circumstances where people assumed she couldn't breastfeed both. There are
also cases where the newborn is a girl, and the toddler boy is put back to
the breast while the newborn girl gets cows' milk (and dies).
