Denise notes,
<< My bug-bear is when women are told to 'change the position' at every feed
when they have sore nipples so that the 'pressure' is changed on the nipple
or some other such twaddle! I say if she can latch in one position
properly then let's not confuse her by trying to teach half a dozen
positions which she undoubtably will find confusing and *not latch well in*
consequently making the situation worse!!!! >>
Yes!! Yes!! Amen & amen. And one of the reasons I encourage use of the
"dominant" hand position is that it is easier for the mom to get the baby
latched "properly" -- asymmetrically; chin first, "rolling" onto the breast
from bottom to top -- Diane W. & Barbara W-C are much more eloquent at
describing it, because she is using the hand she is much more adept with.
On a side, last night I was putting some night-cream on my face and was
shaking the bottle with my right hand, putting it on w/ my left hand -- I
felt SOOOO awkward, trying to smooth it over my face. I'm extremely right
handed, and doing anything "technical" (short of typing and dealing cards) w/
my left hand is VERY difficult for me.
Jan - Wheaton's guilty one, currently in beautiful Tallahassee until tomorrow.
