Nikki says,
<< According to the World Health Organization, and UNICEF, breastfeeding
helpers with initials have all received a minimum of 40 hours of training in
clinical management and counseling. Initials vary: IBCLC (International Board
Certified Lactation Consultant), CLC (Certified Lactation Counselor), LLLL
(La Leche League Leader), CLE (Certified Lactation Educator), and CLS
(Certified Lactation Specialist). There are probably others I haven't heard
about. >>
And there are many others who have 40 or more hours of training in clinical
management and counseling who do NOT have initials because the education
program does not grant certification in accordance with ILCA's stand on this
issue. Just because one education program does grant a certification replete
with intials and another one doesn't does NOT mean that one person is more
qualified than the other or one educational program is better than the other.
We've discussed this on lactnet at length. I'm sure the archives ar BULGING
with posts regarding this issue.
Jan B in Wheaton where it is supposed to rain on Mother's Day. Sigh.
