Pumping, expressing is a very good idea for this mother, it hadn't crossed
my mind when I read the posting.

As to the toddler missing mom when separated, I don't think weaning would
stop this, either. My 3 year old used to scream and cry when she had to
leave me and she had weaned at 19 months. The crying and heartache went on
until she was 11. Of course, she was flying to Arizona from Ohio (for two
week periods of time in the first year then 8 weeks each summer and 2 weeks
at Christmas.) She hated leaving, but eventually said that she cried when
she left him, too, for the first few years. HE always cried (made her so
sad) and she wondered why I hardly ever did. (I did, when the plane was
leaving the runway, felt I had to be strong for her until she was out of
sight). Now, at 16, she has been living with him for 2 years and visiting
me. Just wanted to see what it was like. Go figure. (She does want to come
back here when she graduates, but then, of course, there will be college.)

I hope this mother can find a workable solution. It is seldom, if ever,
easy.

Cheryl
