Hello all:

I wanted to thank all of you for your replies to my inquiry. The consensus
was that LLL leadership was the best way to accumulate hours. My next
question is for those who said that they received training to volunteer at
WIC clinics as breastfeeding counselors. We are in Vermont and the Vermont
WIC clinics have not heard of this. Where was the training received and is
there a contact that we could get more information from in regards to
bringing the training program here?

As a side note, Vermont passed legislation this year that:
1) makes it legal for a woman to breastfeed in a public place
2) the owner/operator of a business that fails to allow a woman to
breastfeed can be fined $25 for the first offense, $50 for the second, and
no more than $100 for subsequent offenses
3) permits breastfeeding women to be excused from jury duty with written
verification that she is a BF mom and the primary caretaker of her child
4) allows for businesses to use "mother friendly business" in their
promotional material if the business develops a policy, approved by the
department, that supports the practice of work site breast-feeding with a
few stipulations
5) the Health and Personnel departments will study the benefits, potential
barriers and economic impact of promoting breast-feeding among state
employees and propose breast-feeding policies for state workplaces.

I thought it amusing that we had to "leagalize" BF in public, but if that's
what it takes...

TIA,
Sharon
