Another thought would be that this is accessory breast tissue in the axilla,
which grew during pregnancy, and continues to remain at its larger size due
to lactation. Not too long ago, we had one of our moms who presented at the
two week check with a similar complaint, and upon examination, discovered a
rudimentary/nonfunctional accessory nipple in the axilla as well! If it is
breast tissue, I believe the current thinking is that the accessory breast
should be removed.
