thanks for all the info on blebs, and now another set of questons for all:

i am working with a mom who has been battling yeast and sore nipples for
pretty much the entire 12 weeks of her baby's life. she got tons of
conflicting information, nad went on diflucan, treated baby with nystatin,
has prescription strength clotrimozole or somethhing similar, and has
basically done it all at one time or another. she finally decided to try
the gentian violet (was afraid because of some of the conflicting info she
had gotten from lactation consultants - ranging from "useless" to
"carcinogenic"). after 3 days she felt MARKED improvement, but not
complete. she stopped, but called me on day 5 or 6 (after not using it for
2-3 days) and we discussed continuing for another 3-4 days per jack
newman's gentian violet handout (if improvement use for a week). so she
started up again, has used it for 3 more days and felt another leap in
impreovement, but still not completely pain free. so various questions are:

1) should she continue for another few days since it seems to be helping?

2) or is more than a week's worth of gv too much and should she just start
back on the topical antifungal and nystatin for baby for 2 more weeks
beyond cessation of all symptoms?

3) why would gv work so well when diflucan and topicals combined did not?
in most of the yeast protocols i am familiar with, gv is a first line
offense, with diflucan following it if it doesn't work .. . ..

4) i searched the archives re: gentian violet and carcinogenicity - and
didn't find much. i understand that phil anderson at uc san diego
considers it a carcinogen and says not to use it for breatfeeding women . .
. ? this mom was told the same by one LC she saw. does anyone ahve mor info?

5) lastly - she was also told to water down the 1% gv to .05% - i was
always under the impression that one watered down 2% to 1%, but i did find
one mention of .05% in the archives. i also found mention of mom applying
2 x daily, and only once daily to baby - do many of you recommend 2x daily
for mom? i have seen 1-2X daily in most written materials, and no
clarification of waht this means. she has been applying 1x daily to bothe
herself and baby.

any and all suggestions more than welcomed! thank you.
