I would cheerfully agree that to some extent, Carol has a point
here--support your own!
On the other hand, the book business is complicated for both the sellers
and the buyers. I have stopped recommending that people to go my
publisher's site <http://www.mosby.com> to buy my book because the shipping
charges are outrageous! (I called anonymously once and discovered this!)
Instead, I suggest Amazon which charges only $3 shipping--much more
reasonable! My book is not listed on, for example, Dr. Hale's site, because
the the publisher's discount for resellers is very skimpy on a $27 book.
(This skimpy discount for re-sellers is great for the buyer, and big
companies like Amazon can survive by making it up on other books, if you
get what I mean.) So, it's nice to 'support your own' but you also have to
watch out for your own wallet.
A better bet is to check out places like Cindy's web site, where you pay
your money, but the profits go towards breastfeeding promotion. Cindy, I
don't have that site handy here, and there are probably others that I'm
unaware of--so feel free to chime in--but if we're going to lay out money
for publications, we need to consider all of these factors.
>hey, i know this is political, too, but we should try to buy the book from
>the source first (for instance, tom hale's website sells, of course, his
>books and various other bf related titles) before going to amazon.com.
>various other breastfeeding terrorist types (okay, speaking only about myself
>here) have websites as well. support your own, so to speak.
