I still firmly believe that any  mother who contacts me, especially if she pays to see me, does want to breastfeed, or at least is ambivalent about it.  I think it helps us give the best of ourselves if we  believe this.

If we give the best help and support we can,  the mother has the best chance of making a choice that is right for herself.   A mother who is ambivalent may need just a little more support, more follow up at my initiative, even gentle urging to keep with it a little longer, but if we think she doesn't really want to breastfeed, we may not be giving all we can to this mother.   We all know there are surprises; the ones we least expected to stick with it sometimes do, and vice versa.  So,  why not give the benefit of the doubt.   I believe positive thinking helps us do our best.
