Pat, my comments were not directed towards soy infant formula but in response
to a post about adding soy products into a women's diet for breast health.
I am afraid, though, that sooner or later, we lactation consultants are going
to have to face the debate of genetically engineered infant formula.
Components of human milk (lactoferrin, etc) are already being genetically
engineered and the plan is to put those components into infant formula (in
fact one might come to the conclusion after hearing some of the European
infant formula ads that this has already happened). Certainly breastfeeding
is the obvious first choice in infant feeding and there is no debate to that
fact.
