And I don't really think that stroke in women of the age we deal with is
all that common. Stroke could affect the production of
milk if the pituitary was deprived of blood supply. Also if the stroke
side of the body has no feeling (so nipple has no sensation), how will the
brain receive the signal that the breast needs to make milk? I also see
how
the mechanics could cause problems with position and ability of mom to
cope with less than the use of 2 hands. But moms seem to be able to
compensate in lots of ways for physical deterrents. I believe new stroke
pts also have labile emotions and depression and this would be
accentuated perhaps in a pp woman. All in all BF has got to be easier
than trying to bottle feed and all that entails. (making, washing up,
shopping etc.) Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
