My other thought along this line is that since so many people with such
conditions are surviving to reproductive ages, that we are loading our gene
pool with these genes.  It would make sense that natural selection no
longer works as effectively in this situation to keep the gene pool strong.
 
Also, regarding the comment of Brostoff and Gamlin's that when we rely on
staple foods we start getting in trouble,makes me wonder how that applies
to some groups, who truely only have access to a very select number of
foods, which make up their entire diet.  (my daughter, who is a very picky
eater, and I were discussing her ability to survive in such a community!)

However, on a breastfeeding note.  I know that most of us feel that lack of
breastfeeding is the cause of several of the recent increases in certain
medical conditions (allergy, auto-immune disorders, etc) but has there been
any real research in this area?
