There are so many ways a mom can hold her baby and breastfeed I find it hard
to say there is one "right" way. I try to assess mom and baby as an
individual pair. Taking into account breast size, nipple placement, arm
length, baby's size, age, etc. then, decide with the mother which position
feels like it gives her the most control, which feels best for long term
holding and comfort, etc. I have seen moms nurse in positions that would not
work for others and be comfortable. I can't imagine we would all be able to
come to a concessus of the "perfect way to nurse." I assume whatever way
feels good to mom and gives milk to baby works for that pair.

On a personal note--I had many pictures of nursing moms with twins and I
tried many ways to do it comfortably. Most did not work for me. In the
early weeks, I knelt by the bed with my breasts on the bed, both babies on
their sides and latched them on. It looked ridiculous, but it did not hurt,
the babies were comfortable and eating well, I was able to nurse them both at
the same time for a few feedings a day. Of course, as they got older more
position options worked. The point I am trying to make is, sometimes one
position is the answer for a mom, but it often changes as her baby does.
