Hi all,
We need to remember that a large percentage of the soybeans used
in infant formulas are genetically engineered. Some postulate
that the increases in allergy to soy and other engineered foods
(such as corn) are allergies to the the proteins from the BT
bacteria that are added.
Marsha Walker wrote a very informative article in the current
Mothering magazine titled "Known Contaminants Found in Infant
Formula." She says that several brands of formula have tested
positive for genetically engineered soy and corn, and that 55% of
the US soy crop and 35% of the US corn crop is genetically
engineered. She lists the brands of formula that tested
positive. She writes "Genetically engineered (GE) ingredients
pose the risk of introducing novel toxins, new allergens, and an
increased antibiotic resistance to infants. Because the FDA does
not require labeling of GE foods, parents will remain unaware
that their baby is consuming transgenic ingredients."
Marsha, do you have any more info to add?
I find this very frightening!
