The weight gain doesn't sound real good to me. I don't know the early
history, but 6lbs 8oz to 7 lbs 2 oz in 3 wks is a 10 oz gain in 3 wks. I
know baby may have taken 2 wks to regain b.wt or some even let it go to 3
wks, so maybe baby gained 5 oz each wk for last 2 wks. This would be good.
But I agree with Barbara Wilson-Clay who says that babies who don't gain
well from very early on are not really the norm (BWC, I hope this is
basically right). Check her past posts on this topic and comparison to
animals with early growth faltering etc.
Anyway, restricting feeds to that amt sounds risky to me too. Re the
spitting up, I usually try to look at several factors:
does the spitting seem to distress the baby, i.e, cause pain?
is the spitting very forceful, projectile?
is the spitting leading to wt loss or no wt gain?
Again, I think we have some excellent descriptions of what is normal and
abnormal spitting in the archives. If baby spits, but is nonchalant about
it, and is thriving, then it can be said it is a laundry problem. Maybe
better to treat medically, if it is indeed a reflux problem, so that baby
can eat. Maybe the mom would want to try a different pediatrician for a
different opinion?
