Before this Mom at her divorce hearing tells a judge that she cannot leave
her infant because her pumped breast milk becomes rancid, I would highly
recommend that she visit the web site by Liz Baldwin, LLLleader and lawyer.
That site is
http://www.lalecheleague.org/LawMain.html

If she can't visit that site, she should phone or fax Liz Baldwin. This Mom
needs to know that some judges would view her refusal very poorly. She may
want to be careful how she wants to present her views.

I went through a separation and divorce with a breastfed baby in Florida. I
read Liz Baldwin's suggestions very careful. And basicly had very little
problem with visitation. She was 8 months old at the separation(exclusively
breastfeeding, would not take foods). She never had to go for overnights
until she was 3 years olds. She came home when she wanted me(more to do with
an ex who was caring enough of her comfort). If a woman tells a judge that
she can't do vistations, she may end up with a worse situation than she ever
envisioned. I would encourage this Mom to rethink this. The State usually
encourages children's need for time with both parents. Even if the mom could
suggest 2-3 hours in a given day for the father to have time with his child.
In my opinion, a positive presentation to the judge of a plan to increase
vistation as the child gets older is more likely to suceed than a refusal to
permit vistation because of rancid breastmilk. Judges may look at rancid
breastmilk as an excuse to deny the father vistation. This Mom really needs
to take a good look at what Liz Baldwin has to say on this subject. Valerie
