I always check the bay's suck and palate with my finger.
I use a latex glove (powder free for my delicate skin <g>) for universial
precautions.
I hadnt given any thought to any adverse effect. Why would it be different
than finger feeding?
At C-sections if I need to vigoursly suction a baby I always gently
introduce and have them suck my finger to try to get them out of the
defensive mode.
I dont know if it works but at least if they are gong to bit the next thing
in their mouth its not mom's breast.
