Lactnetters,
A bf mom of 3 has recently been diagnosed with cancer. Her youngest
child is 3 months. During her pregnancy, her ob discovered a large tumor
in the abdominal area. Baby was delivered fine. The tumor was imbedded in
the abdominal wall, and the surgery, done about a month ago, involved
removal of a great deal of abdominal muscle, extensive endometriosis, and a
complete hysterectomy. Mom has been advised to take radiation therapy ASAP
because the tumor was "in the cancer family", and has a 52% chance of
returning without treatment. She has also been told that the radiation has
a 20% probability of destroying her bowel, and even with the radiation,
that there is a 7% likelihood that the tumor will return. She wants to
nurse her baby for at least one year, but is faced with the decision of
which quality of life to choose for herself and her family. This mom
really wants to talk with someone who may have been through such an ordeal.
      Thanks for your help.
