I have a mom that weaned her baby last January. While breastfeeding this
child and the one before she noticed that when she got a bit full, one spot
on the lateral side of one breast would be particularly sore. She never
developed a mastitis. In April (3 mos after weaning) she noticed a "clogged
duct". OB compressed it and a milky substance came out of her nipple. She
got pregnant in May, and had a miscarriage in late June. The lump is still
there and she wants to know what to do about it. I wouldn't think that it
would be in response to the pregnancy because she had it before she got
pregnant. Does it sound like a galactocele? I have her treating it over the
weekend as if it's a clogged duct, but I will be calling her back on Tuesday
with your wisdom! Thanks, Claudia Globerger RN/IBCLC
