I just have to respond to this, because it is one of my pet peeve's! Can we
please refer to expressed breast milk as EBM, not BM??? I got about halfway
through this post when I realized we weren't talking about putting
breastmilk stools into a baby's eye! Thanks for listening,

Subject: BM in eye for infection
Looking to some very respected and trusted folks on Lactnet for info re BM
to treat eye infections.
Without knowing the complete medical history of a baby in NICU, is there any
contraindication of using BM to treat an eye infection (manifests just like
conjunctivitis - green, goopy globs in the corners of babe's eye)? This
32-weeker has been thriving on BM since birth (March 9th) and has had only
minor set-backs regarding breathing difficulties (he has Treacher-Collins
Syndrome which causes cranio-fascial abnormalities in the developing fetus).
Is BM *ever* contraindicated as an antibiotic treatment for an eye
infection?
Thanks!
Lanell
