I have spent the last couple of weeks reading research relating to bf and diabetes. It occured to me that all the research about breastfeeding, in general, is backwards. Why is breastfeeding/breastmilk the "experimental group" and bottle feeding the "control group"! Why aren't we researching formula?? Why isn't formula feeding the "experimental group". If we could get researchers to turn their thinking around, maybe it would be a beginning to help people think of breastfeeding/breastmilk as the norm. Human milk is what human babies should have---anything else is an "experiment" and should be studied. Diane Weissinger mentioned in her great article a couple of years ago that we needed to report research differently---4x risk of developing otitis media for formula babies rather than less risk for bf babies, but I think the whole research design is wrong!
Tired of having always having to "prove" breastmilk is better.

On a more pleasant note. Great article by Cynthia Reeves Tuttle on the WIC program and their need to change their policy of giving free formula.
