Dear Winnie, #days, # wet diapers is a "rule of thumb" that is been around
for ages. I honestly don't think there is any documentation other than a
lot of clinical experience. I think it would be very hard to get a real
handle on a study of this sort, unless study done at very non
interventionist, Baby Friendly hospitals.
I use the # days, # wet diapers. I also tell parents more dirty than wet,
first few days changing to more wet than dirty by end of first week (7-8
days :-) and talk about the general color and consistency changes we
expect to see. Saves calls about "diarrhea". Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
