Dear Mary, other than something to catch the milk and any drainage, there
isn't anything special to do. It will fill in gradually on it's own and
heal. I would think a breast milk pad would do just fine. Or cut up some
old soft cloth diapers into squares, sew around edges to keep from
raveling. Then she could throw them in the wash. Pump and dump is a
no-no. Only used if wound is too close to nipple for baby to latch on.
Actually the milk is healing and antiseptic. I had a mom once who used a
seive (without the handle :-) to put over a healing abcess so air could get
to it. I would think a breast shell could be used for same idea, with pad
down at the lower edge to catch drainage. Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
