Just wanted to give you all an update on the mom who was feeling like she
was not producing enough milk for her 4 month old. Thank you to all who
responded. There were some great suggestions and some wonderful insight
that I did share with mom. Turns out she was ovulating for the first time
since the baby was born. She did try "marathon nursing" last Friday,
Saturday, and Sunday. Still experiencing the same thing. Is feeling the
let down a bit more now but baby is still acting frustrated after just a few
minutes on the breast. Mom has therefore been supplementing with about 3
oz. formula after each nursing. Mom is tired of pumping, breastfeeding, and
giving formula. And I can't say that I blame her. That is A LOT to do just
to feed one baby. She feels like that's all she does.

As for me, I really haven't been sure what to say to her other than what
some of you have said to do. It's really hard for me to say, "it's not a
good idea to supplement with formula. Just keep pumping and nursing and
sooner or later your milk production will increase", simply because I know
and mom knows the baby is hungry NOW. I'm not to the point where I can
justify starving (starve may be too harsh of a word) a baby for the sake of
continuing to breastfeed.
