I received a note from a professor at my college today seeking information
about "breastmilk contaminants" for a "Position Paper" that she is developing
for a Leadership committee. I have asked to be included in the committee
working on the paper, and sent her some bf-friendly resources. As long as I
did this search, I thought I would share the info with all of you as well. I
hope you can use them.

Below is the letter that I sent her as a follow-up to asking to work with
her. Anyone with other references, please email me privately as I will need
lots of info, since I do not know what direction this paper is heading at the
moment, and need to " head off at the pass "any bf-unfriendly" papers. As you
can see, I have suggested the Hazards of Formula tack instead.

My letter:

I am sure that this is enough to give you some basic information. Please keep
in mind that mother's milk is ALWAYS preferable to manufactured formulas and
that any position paper needs to address the HAZARDS of formula rather than
the presence of contaminants in breastmilk. The rare instances where mothers
are not recommended to breastfeed include HIV (in industrialized nations),
chemotherapy or radioactive drugs (brief waiting period only is needed here,
by the way)."
