Even though my 3 yo son's dentist said that night nursing *may* contribute
to dental decay, he also said he would never tell me to wean him b/c the
benefits overall of nursing far out way one little cavity. In order to get
use to the dentist William even had to nurse in his exam chair while we were
talking. Seeing a 50 lb child nurse didn't scare the dentist either. I liked
my dentist's wording. Perhaps it could be applied to other situations/drugs
that pose a very small risk, but the benefits of continuing breastfeeding far
out way the small risk.

My other son Scott had a frenulectomy done when he was 6 weeks old. He was
put under general anesthesia briefly, NPO for only 2 hours. How could I have
made a 6 week old go 4 hours of NPO? Doesn't make sense. The surgeon did not
have a problem with it either. The ENT not only snipped the frenulum, but
also cut into the tongue muscle and placed a stitch. I think this did help.
Just a snip wouldn't have released the tongue enough. Scott was not having
problems nursing. He was 9 lbs at birth and 10 lbs at two weeks. I thought
it looked bad and I was concerned about future speech problems. Someone
asked if they were missing seeing tight frenulums. Personally I could not
avoid noticing it. It was very obvious. I am glad Scott had the procedure.
Two hospital nurses told me that they didn't know any surgeon who did the
procedure. I called the ENT myself and had no problem getting an appt.

Just sharing. Hope my experiences help someone.
