Hi Lynn, and thanks again to all who wrote with suggestions.

I mentioned before that I'm not her LC, she gave me permission to forward
her info to this list. I've passed along the information I've received
here.

Her LC had her pumping while treating the thrush for 1-1/2 weeks, and after
that the baby began pulling off and fussing when nursing. She tries nursing
but ends up giving a bottle most of the time, as she's worried he won't get
enough to eat. She does offer the breast first each time.

I've passed along the advice about co-bathing, skin contact, alternative
nursing holds (due to her very large breasts, weight on baby, etc.), pumping
before nursing (possible OALD, or baby overwhelmed by normal letdown after
bottle), possibility that the baby now has thrush, etc.

She is very determined to continue nursing and is trying all of these
suggestions. Lynn, I'll pass along your information and will email you with
any questions.

Thanks,
Shannon

Subject: help for mom-baby fussy at breast

Dear Shannon, I had a little trouble deciphering your post ie. who was
talking at any given point, you or "your mom" but my initial impression is
if
the severe case of thrush is gone why are we pumping and bottling at all? I
understand that the baby doesn't seem comfortable at breast, it is unclear
whether this has anything to do with an overactive letdown but what seems
clear is that the baby needs practice at the breast. Encourage her to give
up
bottles entirely for a while and concentrate on winning the baby over to the
breast with the usual; cobathing, lots of skin to skin etc. If the letdown
really is an issue at times- try the v-hold with compression-it works. If
you
are unfamiliar, email me privately. Good Luck!
