good for you winnie! and when people ask, how much do you make per hour, the
correct answer turns out to be (with all the phone calls etc.) . . . less
than minimum wage.

i have seen babies who went on a nursing strike at about ten days or two
weeks when the lowered supply of milk and baby's frustration at the breast
caused them to get pretty unhappy about it. also, all the doctors report that
they were not taught how to evaluate tongue tie or treat it in medical
school. thus they believe it is extremely rare. i met a new doctor today and
this subject came up and he said he had only seen one case where it "might"
have been a problem. i bet he's had more but didn't recognize the cause of
the problem.

i asked about this at journal club last month (local actually-meet-in-person
journal club) and found that yes, pretty much all ENTs in our area do it
under general anesthesia in the hospital, and that they try to avoid doing
anything before the baby is three weeks old. one doctor will clip in the
office when the baby is less than two weeks old. i think it is a combination
of projecting what the worst case scenario might be, not wanting to work on a
wakeful baby, and no education or training in how to do the procedure. yes,
it looks pretty simple, but to the untrained eye, so does latching on a baby.
