I agree this sounds like it would only have a local effect. Does the
proctologist think it is going to paralyze the baby>? I would suggest that
the mother
1. state firmly that she is not willing to wean (if she was pregnant would
they tell her she had to have an abortion to have the tx????)
2. request explanation of the mechanism of action of the botulism tx - this
should reassure that it is local acting
3. request what are her options if indeed the botulism is contraindicated -
(very unlikely) surely there is another tx
4. maybe have her pedi assure the doc it is ok to cont. bf.
