Reference to chicken pos in the current thread reminded me of my own
example that I often cite in classes (I usually don't tell them it
was one of my kids).
My 5 and 6 year old had full-blown cases of a very contageous (it
seemed if you passed someone on the street with it, you would get
it) chicken pox at the same time. (Incidentally, they were
brestfed and I had Chicken Pox as a child). I was nursing my
youngest ( if I remember correctly, he was aroung 15 months old at
the time). He literally got a chicken POCK! I asked my ped as well
as some of the LLLI medical advisory board members if that was
enough to give him immunity. The answer I got each time was, in
effect, "Well, if he gets them later, no."
He hasn't gotten them again and is now 28 years old.
Isn't that an example of how breastfeeding prevents (or at least
reduces the severity of) the bugs our kids are exposed to!
