Dear Lactnetters:
Since I only read the posts now and again, I am not sure what the
controversy is about concerning circumcision and breastfeeding. I only saw
the response from Florida to a woman in Belgium. I live in El Paso, Texas,
which (check your map) is right at the bottom of New Mexico, on the border
with mexico. Very few baby boys are circumcised here. It seems to be an
entirely cultural issue. It is hardly ever done in Mexico, and we are a
population of mostly Mexicans. The Pediatricians tell me its about 75%
non-circumcised. I think its more like 80 to 85% NOT circumcised.
How this relates to breastfeeding, I am not sure. Will someone fill me in?
Our breastfeeding rates around here are abysmal. Is it connected? Can't
be.
