 Rob:  My take on this post-yeast -treatment pain is that the mom had more
than one strain of yeast and that you've eliminated the Candida strain, but
not the other(s).  In cases like this (deep and chronic) it is critical to
also follow treatment with 3-6 months (yes, months) of multiple Lactobacilli
strains and FOS.  I have had great success with the use of oral Nizoral
(ketoconazole) used for 21 days.  Yes, there is a greater risk of liver
toxicity, but this may be monitored relatively easily with liver assay
panels.  Nizoral is a much broader spectrum antifungal and with the above
caution is relatively safe for use in breastfeeding moms outside the
immediate postpartum period. If more natural means are desired, I can
forward the list from my Mar/April 2000 Mothering Magazine article if you
don't have it already.
