>>Somewhere along the way I have missed exactly what a nipple sandwich is,
that was probably okay, but now we have tacos and burgers?? Could someone
please explain!! A few people in Europe may not be too familiar with a
real taco, (although they would probably like them if they tried them!) let
alone a nipple taco!

Sorry! That silliness was from me. I think I first heard "nipple
sandwich" from Barbara Heiser to describe the hand grasp that compresses the
breast and allows it to be pointed slightly upward toward the infant's
palate to entice a reluctant suckle. You can find reference to this in the
Breastfeeding Answer book. Since then it has come to be used also in
association with refining the latch, if it is smaller you can get more in
the baby 's mouth. Diane Wiessinger uses a model hamburger (dog toy) to
show this in a lecture and she has written about this analogy too. If you
eat a big burger you squish it down before you bite it. But you don't turn
it sideways to eat it, nor turn your head. *I* however do turn my head
sideways to eat a taco or the entire filling would fall out. I often tell
moms to squish like a big burger, don't make the baby turn his head sideways
like a he is eating a taco. Carla
