My son did this same thing too (although he was waking every hour or less
sometimes). I was working full-time and pumping and my DH was a SAHD. It is
obvious that the baby is trying to make up for physical contact and closeness
he didn't get during the day from mom. As we all know nursing is a very
strong bond and just being next to mom isn't enough when she has been gone
all day : )
FWIW, I did try the "side-car" arrangement as well, hoping that would improve
his sleeping but that seemed to heighten my sons need to be even closer to me
and he slept worse.
Eventually my sons sleeping pattern did get a little better (about 3+ hour
stretches) when he turned 1 year.
