I am really pleased that some research on tongue-tie is about to start
at the hospital I work in.

We have a consultant pediatric surgeon who believes that feeding is
improved by snipping a tongue-tie.
He feels that good research may help to convince other doctors.
As qualitative research would probably not be so convincing as
quantitative, he will be looking at weight gain in the month prior to
the procedure and comparing it to the month afterwards.
I will let you all know what happens.

BTW he has snipped 27 tongue-ties in the last 2 months, I am amazed that
there are so many, I am certainly not seeing them. Most of them were in
babies of under 4 months of age.
I am encouraged by the fact that these babies were not referred to me
first, perhaps the word is getting about that tongue-tie may cause a
breastfeeding problem!

Regards,
