In the novel Crossing to Safety , Wallace Stegner gives a lovely passage
describing the couple who were chilled in a boating outing warming up in
the tub. The baby, Lang, with her sitter gets upset and is hungry. the
sitter timidly knocks on the door to inform to the parents of the babies
need. The dad gets up puts on his robe gets the baby at the door . Comes
back gives Lang to her mother who is able to resolve her hunger easily in
the tub and the dad gets back in to complete his warming soak.

I would like to write the passage as it is but unsure of copyright
restrictions. It is so kind and gentle and certainly from this wonderful
writer just a slice of life in this young couples day. I read this book
about 10 years ago and loved this passage .
