There are only a couple of posts regarding recurrent sore nipples in later
breastfeeding (past 12 months)...I think Jay ? had posted a few years back.
I researched this many times with very little success. Many women,
including me, experience regular swelling or discomfort, sometimes from
ovulation until menses. There is very little information...one MD I spoke
with considered the possibility of progesterone excess/imbalance. Some
things that have also been suggested: evening primrose oil,
calcium/magnesium supplements in a 2:1 ration, eliminating coffee and
chocolate, and ibuprofen for discomfort. I did suggest the topic for the
newest issue of "Mothering your Nursing Toddler" but have not checked to see
if it was addressed. Of course, with later onset of pain you should
eliminate the possibility of yeast.
