Well I wouldn't think 12 oz in 8 weeks was very spectacular....but do you
know how much baby lost in beginning? Sometimes these bigger babies have
some extra water on board (esp. with diabetic mom) and lose a fair amount
in first few days, meaning baby may have really been starting up from a
bottom weight of 8 or 8.5 lbs. But even if that was the situation, the
weight gain is still unimpressive. Doesn't seem to be a mom problem if she
can pump so much milk. Sounds like more of a baby problem. Gastro,
cardio, neuro, endocrine??? Needs some exploration. How are wet and dirty
diapers? One thing I'd check for would be diabetes insipidus.
I don't have my little formula here at home, but there is a way to increase
the caloric value of formula to 22 or 24 oz. Sounds like pedi is trying to
increase caloric value of breastmilk. This is a little iffy, can put an
undue burden on baby's kidneys, especially when you really don't know what
baby's problem is. Maybe baby needs to be seen at a Children's type
hospital.
be sure and let us know what happens. Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
