Terriann,
Wow, where do you suppose they pulled that one out from?!

> PS. The mother of twins is 33 years old!"

My practice is limited to mothers of multiples so you can imagine how
many mothers of twins I see who are far more "mature" than a mere 33
years! I have NEVER seen any correlation between mom's age and milk
supply. This is true even though many of the older moms have their
multiples due to assisted fertility. (which points to fertility going
before the ability to lactate does, I believe) It wasn't too long ago
there was some discussion about grandmothers relactating in order to
nurse their grandchildren.

When one of "my" mom's has a milk supply problem (other than the first
couple of weeks trying to undo what the hospital has done) the
difficulty is more often TOO MUCH milk! There is so much nipple
stimulation happening with 2 or more babies that it can be a problem.
One mom rented a pump in anticipation of returning to work when the
babies were 3 months. She called later concerned that she needed to cut
her supply back. She was exclusively nursing her 3 months old twins and
pumping an additional 90 Oz.'s DAILY!!!

From my own personal experience, I am (gasp!) 40 yr.s and still nursing
one of my twins. I was 36 when they were born, and even after nearly
dying of complications (HELLP) I still was able to nurse my 33 weekers,
even at my advanced age!

Please do invite this doctor to provide his source of information. Can
it be that an actual clinical study exists which definitively
establishes that this 33 year old mother will be unable to supply her
twins with a full supply of breastmilk, and none of us has heard of
it??? :(
