I am working with a second time mom who experienced engorgement and very
sore nipples when baby was about 5 days old, baby is now 10 days old.  Mom
presented to me last week and had been trying unsuccessfully to hand express
for almost 24 hours, got he hooked up to the double pump and pumped for
relief, she was TOO sore to put baby to breast , so she and dad were finger
feeding for 48 hours, she comes to me Sat eve to get baby back to breast,
baby didn't take too will but did latch some.  When baby latches she often
will "roll" her upper lip area while sucking and this really hurts mom.  Her
top lip is also rolled under during this time, when we try to flip it out,
she lets go.We take baby off and reposition and sometimes she does it and
sometimes she does not.  I have never had a baby do this before. It is hard
to describe...... wondering what suggestion you may have?  any help wold be
appreciated.
