I think our western patterns of nursing play some role in mastitis, ie:
stasis having a major role. I also have a theory about oversupply playing
a part, something that you might not find in traditional aboriginal
communities where supply is more finely tuned to demand. My sample of one
(me) nursed what seemed to be ad lib to me at the time, coupled with what
I now know was oversupply problem led to multiple frequent plugged ducts,
which periodically flared into full blown mastitis. Tight, improperly
designed bra also interferred with flow. (Not a problem in many parts of
the world). Certainly oddles of fodder for research! Sincerely, Pat in
